Abstract

The purpose of the study was to provide information about the use of social media and determine the media literacy skills of PKK housewives in Jati Makmur Bekasi village. The theory used refers to media literacy, while the method used in this study is a qualitative method with the study of literature, in-depth interviews with some housewives, and media literacy information extension activities. The results of the study showed that there are various social media with the use of devices used by housewives PKK group in the village of Jati Makmur Bekasi, among others: Instagram, facebook and whatsapp. Some housewives understand very well about the importance of choosing media content that is accessed with the aim of: a) establish a relationship, b) increase friendship, c) a means of exchanging information, and d) as a sale and purchase of a product. The problem faced is that there is still information that is not true, and then spread and some media users who believe it. There are some ethics in the use of social media that should not be done such as forwarding identity cards and the use of polite language, so that the use of social media, both in terms of finding friends, disseminate information so that it does not enter the legal realm. This can be said to be the importance of social media literacy to be known, understood, and applied in everyday life.
